After purchasing your dark blind you will want to put it up as quickly as possible to ensure it is ready to block out light and keep your rooms private before the end of the day. Installing blinds is a simple process, and everything you need mounting wise will almost always come with your dark blind purchase.
Before you start you will need:
Your blind
Tape Measure
Pencil
Screwdriver
Level
Steps:
1. You need to determine if your blind is an inside our outside mount, check the packaging of your blind to see which type yours is.
2. For an outside mount, you need to hold the blind level (using the level) against the window frame and market with a pencil just below the headrail on each side. Also mark the window casings about 1/8″ past the ends of the headrail. For an inside mount, make pencil marks below the headrail on each side, this is where the right and left hand installation brachets will be placed. It is important to note that the headrail should be level even if the window frame is not, if your headrail is not level your blind may not function.
3. The next step is to attach brachets to the mounting surface, ie the part of the window frame you have just marked. You will need to use proper screws which will usually be provided with your blind, and screw each brachet you have been provided with onto the marks you have made depending on whcih type of blind you have. There are usually just two brachets, although some blinds some with a centre support brachet for extra grip, which needs to be attached in the middle of the window frame at the top. A little tip, if you are struggling to get the screws in smearing a small portion of soap on the screw threads will help them slide in.
4. With the brachets complete, the headrail of your blind is now ready to slide into place. Simply slide the headrail into the brachets and it should attach.
5. Close the mounting brachet covers if necessary.
Follow these steps and your dark blind should be complete and fitted nicely to the window frame of your choosing. Additionally you may wish to add clamps, clothes pins, tie the cord to itself or use a tie down device for the blind cord to avoid a choking risk when children are going to be around it.
Be sure to clean your blind regularly with mild, non abrasive liquid soap solution to ensure it stays looking great.
